Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death worldwide.  It is predicted that it will continue to be the number one cause of death. ​​​

Cardiovascular diseases constitute 19.32% of the total disease burden in Turkey. Considering gender, 20.5% of the total disease burden in men and 18% in women are cardiovascular diseases.
